Reliable and quick refill is the reputation that Ritchie valves have.   However over time, just as with all moving parts, they may need to be replaced or changed. A leaking valve is a strong indicator as to when the vavle or the valve rubber may need to be changed or serviced.

In this video, Engineer Ed reviews the causes and easy solutions as to why your 3/4″ Ritchie valve, found in larger units, may leak.

We have been in business since 1921 so you can imagine the change in technology we have seen over the years. From hand drawn sketches of our parts and products to today’s 3D printing, we have seen and done it all. Ritchie has the ability to create and manufacture our product from concept to completion at our factory in Conrad, Iowa. We have printed miniature models of our waterers which reside on our Engineers desk.

Today, our Engineer Tad was working on the change and improvement of a small piece that goes into our waterers and we were able to capture the 3D print.

It will be interesting to see how technology changes over the next 90+ years of business.

Ritchie Industries maintains a consistency with our parts and our product. Our waterers are known to last well past their 10 year warranty so we have made an effort to keep our parts interchangeable with our older units. Ritchie features two valve sizes, the 1/2″ valve series and the 3/4″ inch valve series. The 3/4″ valve series only has one float to choose from that will work on all waterers with the 3/4″ valve. Because the units that feature a 1/2″ valve generally have smaller valve chambers, we offer 3 different float sizes to fit the appropriate chamber. Engineer Ed explains where each float and corresponding valve can be found.

Ritchie waterers can be used with almost any water source including pond water. Our Thrifty King Series units are known for their energy free use however using pond water as their water source potentially creates an issue for energy free usage. Our Engineer Ed provides some insight on considerations to take when using pond water as your water source.
